Pantry Expansion Ribbon Cutting

The HGTC Foundation is pleased to announce the expansion of the HGTC Pantry at the Grand Strand Campus, which is a critical step toward meeting basic needs and strengthening the well-being of the entire HGTC community.

On Nov. 10, the College celebrated the ribbon cutting for the newly expanded pantry in Building 200, Room 117 (inside TECH Central), marking a major milestone in its commitment to tackling food insecurity.

The celebration doubled as the launch of HGTC’s annual “Chomp-Out Hunger” Food Drive Challenge, which runs through Dec. 12, 2025, as part of the College’s broader Season of Giving campaign.

Why This Expansion Matters:

The HGTC Pantry, now expanded at Grand Strand, offers free, confidential access to non-perishable food, personal care items, and household essentials for all HGTC students, faculty, and staff.

For many in the HGTC community, access to these basics makes a real difference in their ability to focus on learning, building careers, and maintaining a stable home life.

Community Support Makes It Possible:

This expansion would not have been possible without the generosity of HGTC’s community-minded partners. The HGTC Foundation extends special thanks to Corning Credit Union for a $1,500 contribution and Publix for providing $500 in gift cards, both of which will help stock the pantry and directly benefit students and employees.

Additionally, past partnerships, including with Food Lion Feeds, which donated over 700 food boxes helped sustain the pantry’s operations.

How the Pantry Works (Grand Strand):

The expanded Grand Strand location follows the same mission and guidelines as the other HGTC Pantry sites:

Eligibility: Open to current HGTC students, faculty, and staff.

Identification: A valid HGTC ID is required at the time of visit.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College

Visit Guidelines:

Daily “Gator Grab”: Up to 2 grab-and-go items (snacks, breakfast, microwaveable items), once per day, up to 5 days a week.

Weekly “Gator Goods”: Up to 10 non-perishable items once per week, up to 5 times per month.

The Grand Strand Pantry’s hours are posted on the HGTC website, and the pantry is staffed to assist with both walk-in needs and confidential requests.

How You Can Help:

As HGTC launches its Chomp-Out Hunger Food Drive Challenge, there are several ways for the community to get involved:

Donate non-perishable food or personal care items — see the HGTC Pantry’s donation list for current needs.

Make a monetary donation via the HGTC Foundation by selecting the “HGTC Pantry Fund” on the donation page.

Volunteer at the Grand Strand Pantry, help stock shelves, manage donations, and assist visitors.

A Stronger, More Caring Community

With the expansion of the Grand Strand Pantry, HGTC is reaffirming its commitment to not just educating students, but nurturing them. No one in the HGTC family should have to choose between succeeding in school and meeting their basic needs and with this enhanced pantry, the College is doing more than ever to make sure they don’t have to.

HGTC and the HGTC Foundation are deeply thankful to everyone who has contributed time, resources, or generosity to this effort. Together, we are building a stronger, more supportive community.

How you can help

Businesses, organizations and individuals can support students through the HGTC Foundation by giving to endow, sustain or otherwise establish tuition and book scholarships or by supporting efforts to remove financial barriers to students’ success through the Student Emergency Fund.
