HGTC Employees Honor Professor Melissa Pirozzi Through Blue Jeans Week, Raising $2,085 for Student Scholarships
Horry-Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) employees once again demonstrated their generosity and unity during the College’s annual Blue Jeans Week, held October 13–17 in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Through employee contributions, the College raised $2,085 in support of the Melissa J. Pirozzi Scholarship Fund, created by the family of Melissa Pirozzi, a beloved HGTC professor whose passion for teaching continues to influence students and colleagues alike.
Coordinated by the Division of Academic Affairs, Blue Jeans Week invited employees to make a donation and wear jeans throughout the week as a tribute to Professor Pirozzi’s life, legacy, and lasting impact. The endowed scholarship benefits students pursuing degrees in Digital Arts, carrying forward her dedication to nurturing creativity and inspiring the next generation of visual storytellers.
Employees who donated $20 or more received a pink ribbon pin to wear not only during the weeklong observance but throughout the year, symbolizing the College’s ongoing commitment to breast cancer awareness and support for those affected.
“Our employees continually demonstrate the extraordinary heart of this College,” said HGTC President, Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore. “Their generosity honors Professor Pirozzi’s legacy in a deeply meaningful way while empowering future Digital Arts students to follow their dreams. The impact of this scholarship will carry her spirit forward for years to come, and we are grateful to everyone who participated in Blue Jeans Week.”
The HGTC Foundation will award the Melissa J. Pirozzi Scholarship to Digital Arts students who show exceptional promise and dedication to their craft. The Foundation extends its gratitude to all employees whose contributions ensure the scholarship continues to grow and support even more students pursuing their artistic passions.
