About the Scholarship

This annual scholarship was established in June 2023 by the Georgetown Memorial VFW Post #6444. The purpose of this scholarship is to honor Lee Massie who served in the U.S. Army accumulating 22 years of service. He was a combat veteran serving in support of Operation Desert Storm (1989) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (2007 and 2011) as a flight surgeon. He was a Gold Legacy Member of the VFW Post #6444 in
Georgetown. His family and VFW want to honor his memory and give back to the community by helping future generations with their passion of service in Nursing or Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Must be enrolled in the Nursing or Engineering
Program.
2. Must be a graduate of Horry or Georgetown High
School.
3. Must be a resident of Horry or Georgetown County
4. Must be a full-time student in their second year with
12 Credit hours in their major.
5. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater.
6. Must be a veteran or have a family member who is a
veteran (Father, Mother, or Grandparent) with proof
of a DD214.
